Why is my balance zero when I have super on my payslip?

The super you see on your payslip is the amount of super you have earned for that particular pay period.
Your employer can choose how often they pay super you super (e.g. fortnightly, monthly etc.), it doesn’t have to be paid at the same time as your wages.
By law, your employer is required to make a payment at least every 3 months.
Engineering Super will send you a notification every time you receive a contribution!
See the table below for the break-down of the quarterly periods and when the payment is due.

You cannot opt-out of this tax or claim it back on your tax return.
If you have provided your TFN, the contributions tax rate is 15%.
If you earn below $37,000 you may be eligible for an automatic refund of some or all of your contributions tax. You can find out more about this under ‘Low Income Super Offset Tax’ on our government incentives page.

What is the difference between binding or non-binding beneficiary nominations?
There are two types of beneficiary nominations:
1. Non-binding beneficiary nomination This nomination is who you would prefer to receive your super benefit. The Trustee will take your nomination into account, but they are not legally bound to follow it. This nomination does not expire.
2. Non-lapsing binding beneficiary nomination This nomination gives you greater certainty on who will receive your super benefit. The Trustee must pay your super to the person(s) you have nominated if you have a valid non-lapsing binding nomination in place.
There are five categories of people you can nominate as a beneficiary to your super. They include a Legal Personal Representative (LPR), a spouse, children, financial dependent or a person you’re in an interdependent relationship with.
How do I update or cancel a beneficiary?
Both types of beneficiary nominations are non-lapsing, which means they don’t expire. It is important that if your circumstances change, you review your beneficiary nominations. You can update your beneficiary nominations at any time.
If you want to update your beneficiaries nominated, you can simply complete a new Beneficiary Nomination Form, you do not need to complete the cancellation form, the new form will override your previous nomination.
What is salary sacrificing into Engineering Super?
Salary sacrificing is an arrangement you make with your employer to sacrifice some of your pre-tax income into super. This lets you grow your super faster while potentially lowering your taxable income, and thereby potentially reducing the amount of tax you need to pay.
What is a stapled super fund?
A stapled super fund means your existing super fund will automatically follow you when you change employment. This is to avoid multiple super accounts from being created each time you switch jobs. Having one super account means you won’t pay any duplicate fees.
I received a letter from the ATO saying Engineering Super is my stapled fund, what does this mean?
The idea behind “stapling” is to avoid people opening multiple super accounts and paying duplicate fees.
Your new employer may ask the ATO for details of your existing super fund, so they can continue to pay your super into that fund.
Your new employer can make this “stapling request” to the ATO if you did not notify them, in writing, of what fund you would like them to use.
You don't need to do anything if you want your super to be paid into your stapled account.
If you want to change where you super is paid, you can contact your employer to organise this.
Why do I see Professional Super / Student Super / Cruelty Free Super / Engineering Super / Mobi Super on my payslip when I’m only a member of Engineering Super?
The reason the fund name appears as "Professional Super / Student Super / Cruelty Free Super / Engineering Super / Mobi Super", is because these funds all operate from the same sub-fund, Professional Super. Super funds share sub-funds and Master Trusts to lower costs and operate more efficiently.
Why do I have three BPAY biller codes for contributions?
There are three different contribution codes to make it easy to identify contributions so they can be allocated to your account correctly.
1. “A personal contribution made by me” – these are classified personal contributions. Personal contributions can go towards the First Home Super Saver Scheme, and by making a personal contribution, you could claim a tax deduction or be eligible for the Government Co-contribution.
If you are under 18 or have directed your parent or relative to make a personal contribution on your behalf for funds you are otherwise entitled to, they can also contribute to your super account by using these BPAY details.
2. “A contribution made by my spouse” – these are spouse contributions into your super account. The ATO defines a “spouse” as married or de facto. They don’t need to be a Engineering Super member to contribute to your account.
Your spouse should use these BPAY details to make their contribution to your super.
For more information about spouse contributions, check the ATO website.
3. “Other contributions” – these contributions are made by other third parties that don’t meet the other criteria.
For more information including definitions of each third party, check out the ATO website.
The process for third party contributions is different.
Provide the BPAY details to the third party to make the contribution.
Download the form and send this to the third party to complete. This is required so we know the type of contribution so it can be allocated to your account correctly. For reoccurring contributions that are the same contribution type, from the same third party and for the same amount, the third party only needs to complete the form once. If these are different, a new form is required each time.
Email the form back to hello@engineeringsuper.com.au Please provide us with the completed form within 28 days, otherwise it will be returned to your bank account.
How can I make personal contributions?
You can make personal contributions via BPAY.
Log into your super account and go to ‘Make a contribution’. Under ‘A personal contribution made by me’ (first option!), you will be able to see your personalised BPAY details to make a transfer.
